Mercedes Moné will lose AEW feud with Britt Baker if she's smart, WWE veteran says (Exclusive)
Mercedes Moné looks set to feud with Britt Baker in the coming months in AEW. Vince Russo, WWE's former head writer, believes there is only one way the rivalry can realistically end.
Moné has already won the AEW TBS Championship and the NJPW Strong Women's Championship since joining AEW in March. After capturing the latter title from Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door on June 30, she was interrupted by the returning Baker.
Russo discussed Moné's AEW creative control on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws with host Dr. Chris Featherstone. The veteran writer explained why Moné, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, must not book herself to win the AEW Women's World Championship. He also believes she should not come out on top in the feud with Baker:
"God, bro, she's gotta be smarter than that," Russo said. "She's gotta be smarter than that because you know, Chris, bro, if I'm Britt Baker, okay? 'I was there from day one.' Okay? As far as I'm concerned, Britt Baker is just as good as Sasha Banks, if not better. The only difference is Britt Baker was not in the WWE. That's the only difference, bro. She's a really good performer." [11:26 – 11:54]

Vince Russo thinks Mercedes Moné must earn trust in AEW
In 2000, Vince Russo wrote WCW storylines when Hulk Hogan had the backstage power to influence his own match outcomes. The Hulkster's contract sometimes caused issues behind the scenes, most notably at Bash at the Beach 2000.
Russo believes Tony Khan has turned Mercedes Moné into a modern-day Hogan by allowing her to dictate her own storylines. Moving forward, he thinks history could repeat itself if the double champion only cares about herself:
"Bro, if Sasha was smart and wants to get over with the locker room, she will do the favor," Russo continued. "If it's all about her, because that's what Stevie [WCW legend Stevie Ray] said to me today, he said, 'Bro, when Hulk got creative control, he made it all about him. What was best for him. Not what was best for the show, not what was best for the locker room. What was best for him.' So, bro, if she really wants to be a locker room leader and really wants to be respected, then she'll do the favor for somebody else." [12:00 – 12:38]
On the July 3, 2024, episode of AEW Dynamite, Britt Baker challenged Moné to a match at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium on August 25. Moné declined the challenge and told her new rival she needed to earn the opportunity.
