Mina Shirakawa suffers brutal chest wounds against 48-year-old legend in AEW
Mina Shirakawa has taken the AEW world by storm. The fan-favorite debuted several months back but recently returned for a program with longtime friend and tag team partner, Mariah May. As Mina battles towards one of the biggest matches in her career, she has just revealed an unpleasant wound from a grueling fight, along with a defiant statement.
Shirakawa returned to the AEW ring to defeat Harley Cameron on Collision last month, then she and May defeated Cameron and Nyla Rose shortly before the turn. Since then, Shirakawa defeated Leila Grey on Collision, then defeated Emi Sakura last night in just under ten minutes. Despite Sakura's efforts, Mina countered and hit a second-rope Slingblade with no luck. The 30-year industry veteran pulled the referee in the way, but The Venus kicked her, then dove over the referee to connect, and hit another Slingblade for the win.
Your Highness is known for her knife-edge chops, and Shirakawa found out why on Collision. Mina took to X after the match to reveal the brutal welts left by Emi's chops. The 36-year-old captioned the photo with a defiant statement and you can check it out by clicking here.
"No matter how many wounds I bear, I’m the one who stands tall in the ring in the end!!! That’s my way of fighting. 💋 #AEWCollison #WeWantMina," she wrote.
The Venus of Pro Wrestling debuted for AEW in April to save the current Women's World Champion from an attack. Mina and Mariah then shared a viral kiss and champagne toast ahead of Shirakawa's debut win over Anna Jay. She had a brief involvement this summer during May's feud with Toni Storm, then returned to celebrate the 26-year-old's championship win over Timeless Toni. However, the champ recently turned on her friend and now the two have been going at each other.
Shirakawa is set to challenge May for the AEW Women's World Championship on Wednesday's Winter Is Coming edition of Dynamite. Known as Rose Gold, Mina and Mariah previously held the Goddess of Stardom Championship for forty-nine days in 2023.
AEW star set to challenge Mariah May or Mina Shirakawa
Thunder Rosa is coming for the AEW Women's World Championship. The former All Elite champion has made her intentions clear for months, but now she's issued another direct challenge just days before the next defense.
The Unstoppable told Renee Paquette on Saturday's Collision that she has defeated Shirakawa and May in the past, and won't stop until she becomes champion again. Rosa then challenged the winner of Wednesday's Winter Is Coming title match. She was later shown at ringside during the 36-year-old's win over Emi Sakura, and again after the match, waving to May's next challenger.
All Elite Wrestling has not confirmed an upcoming title shot for Rosa, but that could change after Wednesday's title match. Thunder Rosa previously defeated May on Dynamite in April and defeated Shirakawa in May 2019 at a TJPW event in Tokyo.
