"Mission accomplished" - AEW star defends Mike Tyson and Jake Paul; explains the real motive behind the fight

AEW star Anthony Bowens has taken to X (Twitter) to defend Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. Paul defeated The Baddest Man on The Planet via unanimous decision on Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Several fans were unhappy with the bout and criticized it on the internet.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson was originally set for July 20 at the same location but was delayed due to the latter experiencing an ulcer flare-up while on a plane. Therefore, it took place on November 15.

The much-anticipated bout turned out to be a disappointing affair for many fans, as they expected the legendary Tyson to crush the YouTuber-turned-professional boxer, Paul. However, fans forgot to consider the age difference between them. Tyson, 58, retired in 2005, while the 27-year-old Paul is currently in his prime.

While critics slammed the pro-boxing match on X, AEW's Anthony Bowens defended the stars involved by giving fans a reality check through multiple posts.

"WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING?! I truly don’t understand why you would expect anything more than what you got," he wrote.

The AEW star further explained that the actual purpose of the Tyson vs. Paul match was to draw viewers' attention to the event across the globe.

"This isn’t 1988; he’s 58. [He] had [a] health scare bad enough to postpone the fight, [a] knee injury, and probably other stuff. He’s there purely for the spectacle of the match; for all involved to make money and get millions of eyes on these other boxers [Jake wants to help women’s boxing]. The undercard was THE boxing. Mission accomplished!"
