MJF goes viral outside AEW, "ruins" video involving daughter of megastar
Despite his absence from live programming, MJF remains involved in the AEW storylines. The multi-time All Elite champion has focused on his career outside the promotion in recent years, which has allowed him to rub elbows with big-name celebrities. The Wolf of Wrestling shocked many this week when he made a surprise viral cameo with a few familiar faces, including the daughter of one of his bosses.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman began focusing on his Hollywood career last year. His role in The Iron Claw had the 28-year-old hanging out with John Cena and Zac Efron on the red carpet, and now the former AEW World Champion has been filming a role in Adam Sandler's "Happy Gilmore 2" movie. Filming began in New Jersey on September 9 and was scheduled to wrap on November 9, but it is still ongoing as of this week.
Young Hollywood stars Sunny Sandler, Ethan Cutkosky, and Conor Sherry shared a TikTok video this week, but The Wolf of Wrestling seemingly "ruined" the end as the trio danced to the Watermelon song by John + Jane Q. Public. The TikTok video currently has more than 13.2 million views, more than 2 million likes, almost 8,000 comments, and more than 86,000 bookmarks.
"@ekat19 @Sunny #mjf," wrote Conor Sherry on his TikTok.
Sherry and Cutkosky have not been confirmed for the Happy Gilmore sequel, but Sandler has been spotted filming with her father in New Jersey. The video from Monday confirms that the All Elite Wrestling star was still on set as of this week.
Happy Gilmore 2 is set to be released by Netflix. The upcoming sequel to Sandler's box office hit from 1996 will see Adam, Ben Stiller, Christopher McDonald, and Julie Bowen reprise their roles from the original movie. The film is expected to be released in March 2025 or early Fall 2025 at the latest.
MJF set to wrestle at AEW Full Gear
MJF is set to return to the ring on the sixth annual AEW Full Gear pay-per-view, scheduled for Saturday, November 23, at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The five-time Dynamite Diamond Ring holder will compete in a singles match or a Three-way contest.
The Salt of the Earth has appeared in pre-tape segments while on hiatus, directing the rivalry with Adam Cole and Roderick Strong. The veteran stars are in a race to three wins, with the first to reach the milestone earning a Full Gear match with MJF. However, AEW officials have stated that Cole and Strong will face MJF in a Three-way bout if they both reach three wins at the same time.
The former NXT Champion has defeated Buddy Matthews and Malakai Black, while the former NXT North American Champion has wins over Shane Taylor and The Beast Mortos. Wednesday's live Dynamite will feature Cole vs. Konosuke Takeshita, plus Strong vs. Lance Archer in a Falls Count Anywhere match. MJF has not wrestled since defeating Daniel Garcia at AEW All Out on September 7, but he was taken out in the post-match angle.
