MJF set for future movie with former WWE and AEW stars, top Hollywood names
AEW fans are currently patiently awaiting the return of MJF. It's no secret that the sole Dynamite Diamond Ring winner has been filming Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore sequel, but he's also secured a role in a future movie with former AEW and WWE stars. New information on the gig has been revealed, along with news on why MJF may miss more ring time.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman hasn't wrestled since defeating Daniel Garcia at All Out, where he was temporarily written off by Garcia's post-match attack so that he could film a significant role in Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2. Sources noted this week that the 28-year-old filmed throughout September, and while he is expected to return to AEW sooner than later, he still has some filming left for Happy Gilmore, which premieres in March 2025. It was also mentioned how the Long Island native signed to star in another upcoming movie, but details were limited.
The Wolf Of Wrestling recently signed on for, and has already filmed, a role in the action movie Stranglehold. The movie also features Ron Perlman, Justin Long, Jake Lacy, former AEW and current TNA star Ryan Nemeth, former WWE star Kayla Braxton, and Ashley Benson, among others.
Friedman's character has not been named as of this writing, but he portray "one-half of a big bad duo" with Perlman. Their duo will face off against the trio of main characters portrayed by Long, Lacy, and Benson.
The action-heist comedic-thriller follows an exotic dancer (Benson) and her Army veteran husband (Lacy). The couple impulsively decides to rob the Arkansas strip club the woman works at as they are fed up with barely getting by in life. The movie is currently in post-production, but no release date has been confirmed.
Braxton plays the role of a dancer named Crystal, while Nemeth portrays a character named Leon's Dude Terry, who is associated with a character named Leon's Dude Dale, which will be portrayed by Orry Lee Kennedy aka social media star Cornbread Cowboi, in his film debut. The character named Leon is portrayed by writer Chandler Duke.
Details on MJF's character in recently-filmed movie
MJF took time away from AEW at the start of this year as he needed time to heal and work on other projects. After almost six months off, the former AEW World Champion returned in June.
It was revealed that Maxwell Jacob Friedman filmed an indie comedy movie in New York, called The Floaters. Filming wrapped in January, but a release date has not been confirmed. It's now been revealed that MJF will portray a character named "Matt," who appears to be a summer camp worker.
The Floaters follows struggling musician Nomi (Jackie Tohn), who accepts a last-resort job from her over-achiever best friend Mara (Sarah Podemski), at their childhood Jewish summer camp. The two mentor misfit campers called Floaters as the camp struggles to survive amidst competition from a longtime rival. Friedman is open about being Jewish, as is most of the cast and staff in this movie.
Former WWE RAW guest host Seth Green also stars in The Floaters, along with Aya Cash. MJF is represented in Hollywood by Creative Artists Agency and Activist Artists Management.
