MJF and Will Ospreay's 60-minute epic had a glaring mistake, says WWE legend, making one person look terrible
MJF and Will Ospreay locked horns in a nearly 60-minute match on AEW Dynamite. A WWE legend has highlighted how a potential error in the contest made one person look bad. The name being discussed is Bully Ray (fka Bubba Ray Dudley).
On AEW Dynamite 250 this week, MJF and Will Ospreay gave it their all in a hard-hitting title match. Just before the expiration of the 60-minute time limit, The Wolf of Wrestling dethroned Ospreay. The bout received praise from numerous fans and professionals.
On the Busted Open podcast, Bully Ray highlighted how MJF and Ospreay were fighting outside the ring and in the crowd without being counted out by the referee.
"All that does is put a glaring spotlight on the referee and the lackluster refereeing. It doesn't make sense, and for you people out there who think I'm nitpicking, this is not nitpicking. The referee is as important as the competitors. What's the point of having a referee if you want that [fighting outside the ring] to be able to happen? Just make it no disqualifications."
The Hall of Famer added how the referee did not count out the competitors on several occasions despite officiating a regular singles match.
"I don't care what you do; just don't let it fall under the guise of a normal match. Then, there were times when the referee was counting and they were breaking the count, no rhyme, no reason, nothing makes sense. The psychology of the match makes sense, the psychology of the referee doesn't." [11:51 - 13:09]
MJF is the new AEW International Champion
Besides aiming to settle their differences, MJF and Will Ospreay fought each other for the AEW International Title on Wednesday. The Devil ultimately pulled out his Dynamite Diamond Ring and hit Ospreay with it to capture the coveted championship.
After the match, The Salt of the Earth had to wear an oxygen mask to recover from the beating he received at the hands of Ospreay. It will be interesting to see what's next in their compelling rivalry.
