MVP shuts down name change for Bobby Lashley's AEW finisher: "That's awful"
MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin are currently running roughshod over the AEW roster, and The All Mighty's dominance is a big reason why. However, fans have been confused over the name of Lashley's finisher, and MVP cleared things up today on social media.
Bobby Lashley defeated Swerve Strickland at AEW Full Gear 2024. The former WWE Superstar locked Strickland into his brutal full Nelson submission until the referee stopped the match. Lashley has used the finisher for years, and a fan recently suggested a new name for it: "The Syndicator."
MVP thinks the suggestion is atrocious, and he said as much on X/Twitter. The Hurt Syndicate's leader responded to the fan and shut the name down:
"No. He shouldn't. That's awful. But thank you."
Another fan incorrectly recalled the name of the maneuver as "The Hurt Locker." MVP corrected him, noting that it's called "The Hurt Lock" and that it has nothing to do with the 2008 military action film The Hurt Locker, nor does it reference Lashley's military service:
"No. It's called "The Hurt Lock" with no reference to the movie or Bobby's military service."
Bobby Lashley and The Hurt Syndicate are on a quest for gold in AEW
MVP wasted no time in declaring his intent to take over AEW as soon as he debuted in the promotion. Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley soon joined him, and the three have proven to be a dominant force thus far.
Now that Lashley has vanquished former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland, MVP has made it known that they won't stop until they stand atop the roster. He issued a mission statement on the most recent episode of Dynamite, claiming that they came to All Elite Wrestling to take whatever they want, including championship titles.
It's unclear what Bobby Lashley's next step is, but Shelton Benjamin is participating in this year's Continental Classic tournament, which could earn him an opportunity at Kazuchika Okada's Continental Championship. Whether either of them can claim a title in the near future remains to be seen.
