Record-breaking champion responds to Mercedes Mone’s challenge to a dream match

A top AEW star replied to Mercedes Mone after the latter called her out. The star being discussed is Athena. She has been signed to the promotion since 2022 and has been a top star of AEW's sister promotion ROH. Fans have been wanting to see the duo square off for many years.

The War Goddess recently achieved a massive milestone as she became the longest-reigning ROH champion of all time. Athena won her ROH Women's World Championship from Mercedes Martinez at Final Battle 2022. She has been the reigning champion for more than 647 days and broke Samoa Joe's record of 645 days as champion when he held the ROH World Championship two decades ago.

The CEO has been a top star in the Jacksonville-based promotion and currently holds the TBS and NJPW's Strong Women's Championship. She recently defeated Britt Baker at All In and Hikaru Shida at All Out. In a recent clip, when asked about which ROH star she would like to face, Mercedes Mone replied saying, Athena.

Later, the longest-reigning ROH Women's World Champion reacted to the TBS Champion's challenge with a short message on Twitter.

"Hmmmm..... what do yall think???" she wrote.

WWE Veteran claims he cringes during Mercedes Mone's interviews

Mercedes Mone is becoming a polarizing figure in the wrestling industry. She is one of the highest-paid stars in the company and is thriving at the top of the women's division.

While speaking on Storytime with Dutch Mantell, Dutch claimed that he finds the CEO's interviews 'terrible' and cringes while watching them.

"Hey when [Mercedes] Mone does an interview, I cringe. I'm going, 'God, terrible'. It just looks like memorized and she just recites the lines and there's nothing between either one of 'em [Mercedes Mone & Britt Baker]. I much prefer Toni Storm and all the rest of those guys and Saraya because they at least put some life into it, Mone does nothing," he said.

It will be interesting to see if Mercedes and Athena will face each other in the future.
