Record-breaking champion teases return after AEW Full Gear; has huge match in mind
A seasoned All Elite star who has held numerous titles across several promotions over his 20+ year career is seemingly looking to make his comeback in AEW's sister promotion, Ring of Honor. Jay Lethal made his debut for the Tony Khan-led company in 2021.
Lethal is closely associated with ROH, where he performed prolifically prior to signing with All Elite Wrestling. The New Jersey native is one of the longest-reigning ROH World Champions of all time and has competed for the title against top industry names like Adam Cole, Will Ospreay, Cody Rhodes, and more.
Lethal has not wrestled in an AEW ring since August 2024 and has been hardly featured on ROH since Tony Khan acquired the company two years ago. The 39-year-old star recently appeared on ROH on Honor Club, promoting his new action figure alongside his allies Jeff and Karen Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh.
Lethal would then be accosted by AEW executive QT Marshall, who had a much-advertised and entertaining match against social media personality and former indie wrestler Big Boom AJ of The Costco Guys at Full Gear Zero-Hour last month. Claiming to be on top of the industry, Marshall invited Lethal to benefit from his recent popularity and offered to go against him in a match.
However, Lethal refused, indicating that he had greater ambitions for returning to ROH.
"You know, Sonjay and I were, because of the return of Ring of Honor, I haven't been there in a while. We kinda had our sights on a bigger fish. Nothing against you, but no thanks," said Lethal. [3:00 onwards]
It remains to be seen whether Lethal has designs on the ROH World Title currently held by Chris Jericho.
What AEW' Jay Lethal has been up to recently
In his last All Elite Wrestling appearance, Jay Lethal teamed with Jeff Jarrett to defeat Private Party and The Kingdom on the August 30 episode of AEW Rampage in a three-way tag bout.
He also competed in a massive 16-person tag match during the Zero-Hour pre-show to All In 2024 at Wembley Stadium.
Before that, Lethal had lost to Hangman Page and Katsuyori Shibata in singles action on Dynamite and Collision, respectively. He has been plying the independent scene of late, last performing at a Warriors of Wrestling show in November.
