Rey Fenix issues first statement on WWE - AEW contract situation developments

The situation surrounding AEW, WWE, and The Lucha Brothers remains a hot topic of discussion among wrestling fans and insiders. Amid an increase in rumors and speculation on the future of the multi-time champions, Rey Fenix has just opened up with a statement and advice for fans of himself and Penta El Zero Miedo.

The brothers have been expected to join WWE for months once their AEW contracts expire. Tony Khan wanted to keep the former AEW World Tag Team Champions, but they were set on leaving, so injury time was added to both contracts once officials found out about WWE. Fenix's contract now runs well into 2025, with still no talk of creative plans in the works, but Penta's deal just ran out, and he is essentially a free agent. The 39-year-old is expected to receive additional interest on the indies for big matches, even more interest than he's had while with All Elite Wrestling.

Fenix took to Instagram this weekend to issue a statement to fans after the reports broke on Penta's contract status. The 33-year-old encouraged everyone to just wait and see what happens and to remain professional. Rey's comments were translated from his Instagram video.

"There are many things that are not known, but that also should not be talked about. We must wait. Professionalism first and foremost, folks. We must not be the same as all those podcasts that go around spitting out what should not be spit out. Never diminish our work. There are things that should always be respected, and many are forgetting everything that wrestling has given them," Rey Fenix said. [H/T to WrestlingInc]

Penta's last AEW match came on the July 19 Rampage show, taped two days before, where he and Fenix defeated Private Party. This was just days before The Lucha Brothers teamed with PAC for a DQ loss to Mistico, Mascara Dorada, and Volador Jr. at an event put on by All Elite partner CMLL. Fenix has not wrestled for AEW since defeating Tony Nese on the July 20 Collision episode, but he worked for ANCLA in Mexico the following night.

Top AEW stars set for ROH PPV

All Elite Wrestling and Ring of Honor will invade the historic Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City in late December. ROH will run its 23rd Final Battle PPV on Friday, December 20, then officials will tape Christmas Collision on Saturday, December 21, and then will tape Dynamite on 34th Street and New Year's Smash Rampage on Sunday, December 22.

AEW stars have been announced for ROH Final Battle. Chris Jericho will defend the ROH World Championship, but his opponent has not been announced. Furthermore, Red Velvet will defend her ROH Women's World Television Championship against fellow All Elite star Leyla Hirsch.

The Learning Tree just retained the ROH World Championship over Tomohiro Ishii on Wednesday's Dynamite. Velvet last retained the ROH World Women's TV Championship over Diamante on November 14.
