Ricochet gets an offer for a rematch against 31-year-old star amid rumors he is AEW-bound
AEW is expected to make another significant roster addition in the near future - Ricochet. The multi-time former champion will have no trouble finding opponents in his post-WWE career, but one familiar face is hoping they can run it back now that they are free agents.
The One & Only officially left WWE and became a free agent to kick off July. While various sources still report that Ricochet is headed to AEW, he is able to immediately sign with whoever he wants, as his contract ran out and there is no 90-day non-compete clause.
The 35-year-old had well over 500 matches in WWE, including a RAW match with then-24/7 Champion Reggie on September 27, 2021. The match ended in DQ at just over one minute due to interference by Akira Tozawa, Drew Gulak, Drake Maverick, and R-Truth, but the champion and challenger ended up fighting them all off.
Reggie, fka SCRYPTS, now wants a rematch. Speaking to MuscleManMalcolm in a recent interview, the longest-reigning WWE 24/7 Champion expressed interest in locking up with The Highlight of the Night once again. Reggie recalled the September 2021 match and revealed how Ricochet had been an inspiration for years. He was asked about wrestling Ricochet outside of WWE.
"If that happens, that would be pretty dope. We started to have a little match in WWE, and it got taken away super fast for 24/7 Championship stuff, but I would love to tangle with that man because he's been a huge inspiration of mine since before even coming [to WWE]. I used to watch his matches at Cirque du Soleil, doing my makeup before a show. If anyone could even make that switch from wrestling to Cirque du Soleil, I think he'd be top on that list," Reggie said.
Ricochet has not publicly responded to Reggie as of this writing.
Ricochet reacts to WWE viral moment amid AEW rumors
WWE held its 15th annual Money in the Bank PLE on Saturday at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The U.S. National Anthem was performed before the show by ring announcer Samantha Irvin.
There had been rumors about Irvin potentially leaving WWE to join her fiancé in AEW as he is expected to sign with Tony Khan in the near future, but sources have dismissed the talk on Irvin. Ricochet took to X during Money in the Bank to congratulate Samantha on the performance.
"I love you, wow. @SamanthaTheBomb that was amazing!!" Ricochet wrote.
Ricochet was officially moved to the WWE Alumni roster last week. The inaugural WWE Speed Champion is expected to join AEW in the near future.
