Sammy Guevara makes an announcement ahead of AEW Collision
Three of AEW's Four Pillars are back in action and thriving on weekly television, but Sammy Guevara remains the odd man out. The Spanish God was absent for several months but recently returned in Ring of Honor. He's now got a new t-shirt available to celebrate his comeback.
Guevara took time off last year to welcome the newest member of his family, his daughter Luna, alongside his wife, fellow AEW star Tay Melo. He briefly returned to the ring but was suspended earlier this year after a match with Jeff Hardy.
The Spanish God now seems set to work in Ring of Honor for a bit and could be teaming up with Dustin Rhodes in the near future. This will be Sammy Guevara's first foray without a faction or Chris Jericho in quite some time, and he's marking the occasion with the release of a new t-shirt.
Sammy took to X today to announce the release of the shirt. You can check out his tweet below:
"Papa's got a New Shirt available now!" wrote Guevara.
Dutch Mantell had some harsh words for Sammy Guevara upon his return
Many AEW fans have been frustrated with Sammy Guevara's booking and perceived lack of growth over the last few years, especially as his peers—MJF, Darby Allin, and Jack Perry—continue their ascents within the company.
Recent reports have indicated that Guevara was set to turn heel upon returning to AEW, but Bryan Alvarez speculated that those plans involved the 31-year-old once again teaming with Chris Jericho. The Spanish God allegedly wasn't on board with those ideas, and thus, his run in Ring of Honor began.
Wrestling veteran Dutch Mantell believes that ROH is a major demotion for the young star. On a recent edition of Story Time with Dutch Mantell, he had some harsh words for Guevara regarding the alleged plans for him to return as a heel:
"Well, that's not a good sign. That's not a good sign at all, but I heard what he did... they wanted him to lose, and he didn't think... he didn't agree with that. If I was the booker and I wanted him to do something, and he said no, after all the guys that have put him over... I'd say, 'Well, you need to go find another job. Find another job where you're gonna be the big star and then we'll both be happy.' And I'd send him packing that day," Dutch Mantell said.
It's unclear what the plans are for Sammy Guevara in ROH, but given time, the young star may be able to find a way to connect with the audience. If he's able to make it back onto AEW television, he may find himself in a better position.
