Samoa Joe challenged to a huge match by 37-year-old star amid AEW absence
The AEW roster features numerous hard-hitting heavyweights. Samoa Joe is billed as one of the hardest-hitting and most intense while also highly regarded as one who commands respect. Despite his ongoing hiatus, Joe remains a threat to other competitors, and now one top star is calling the multi-time champion out.
The Samoan Submission Machine has not wrestled in 113 days. Joe is on hiatus to work on various non-AEW projects and was written out of storylines with his Dynamite Street Fight loss to Chris Jericho on July 10. He previously made very viral remarks on his in-ring future with the company but is still expected to return as he prepares to begin his 25th year as a pro wrestler. One All Elite star often compared to Joe recently began his 9th year in the industry: Brody King.
Big Bad has defeated a few other brawlers since joining AEW, including Eddie Kingston, Claudio Castagnoli, Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, and Jake Hager. The 37-year-old now wants to face Joe. In a new interview with Wrestlesphere, Brody revealed potential future plans when asked what's next for himself and The House of Black.
King said he'd love to return to Japan for a few matches, specifically a House of Black trios match. He added that his goals are new opponents and pushing himself in new directions, so others can experience his brand of wrestling. Brody recalled his recent Darby Allin program and revealed he could express himself differently compared to recent years. He then addressed The King Of Television:
"I would love to wrestle Samoa Joe. That’s always the day-one person in AEW [I’ve wanted to wrestle]. He was someone I watched early on in my training career and ever since he’s just been one of my top favorite wrestlers," Brody King said.
Brody also confirmed that he wants to win the AEW World Championship, but he's not willing to hang his hat on that. The 2022 Royal Rampage winner thinks titles are cool as they mark additional achievements under your belt, but championships have never been his ultimate goal.
The House of Black rumored for an AEW title shot
The House of Black has been on a bit of a tear lately, fueling rumors and speculation on another push to the World Trios Championship. The titles are currently held by Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and PAC.
Brody King, Buddy Matthews, and Malakai Black currently have a trios division record of 8-2-1, according to AEW Rankings based on 2024. The next-best record is The Conglomeration at 8-3, then Daniel Garcia and Private Party at 2-0. The BCC is 6-0 going back to just before their All In title win.
Rumors on The House of Black's push began after a recent confrontation with the champions, which came before they squashed enhancement talents on Collision and Dynamite this month. Tonight's Dynamite will feature Buddy vs. Adam Cole in his return, which could set up The House of Black vs. The Undisputed Kingdom.
