Shawn Michaels or Bret Hart guy? AEW star says "neither" and chooses WCW legend
The iconic rivalry between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels is still talked about today. Recently, an AEW star had an interesting answer when he was asked whether he is a Hart guy or a Michaels guy.
Lance Archer grew up during the era when WCW and WWF (WWE) were at their peak. The head-to-head competition between the promotions resulted in creating some iconic stars and rivalries. Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Sting, and Goldberg were some of the top draws at that time. The Murderhawk Monster revealed that growing up, he was rather a 'Sting' guy instead of The Hitman and the Heartbreak Kid.
In a Q&A session with One True Sport, Lance Archer praised Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart but revealed that he never watched them much. He further clarified that he felt more connected to The Icon Sting who was known as the Franchise of WCW.
"Really, neither, I guess to some small degree Shawn [Michaels]. That's no knock on either one of them. They're obviously the amazing wrestlers that are way above and beyond anything that I have ever been or ever will be. But I just, I never watched them." As a fan-turned-wrestler, Archer's exhilaration came from another Hall of Famer. A face-painted avenger often dubbed "The Franchise of WCW." [H/T:WrestlingInc]
AEW star Lance Archer further spoke about why he watched WCW instead of WWF
In the same interview, AEW star Lance Archer explained that he wasn't watching the WWF as he was more attracted towards the WCW product which at the time, introduced Sting's 'Crow' persona and his iconic feuds with nWo.
"When I started watching wrestling, like watching, watching wrestling was WCW, and it was when Sting took on the whole 'Crow' persona. He was the guy that I was watching; his fights with the nWo, and things like that. So, those were the guys that I was watching 'cause I really wasn't watching, you know, it was WWF back then, so I wasn't watching that at all." [H/T:WrestlingInc]
Sting retired from professional wrestling at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view earlier this year. It will be interesting to see if the veteran returns to All Elite Wrestling in the future.
