"She broke the tradition of wrestling" - Ricochet reveals why fans have really turned on Samantha Irvin

AEW star Ricochet recently opened up about fans' adverse reactions to Samantha Irvin's WWE exit. She recently departed from the global juggernaut.

Samantha Irvin was the ring announcer of WWE Monday Night RAW and was well-liked backstage. Hence, many were shocked to find out that Irvin was leaving the company to pursue other projects. The 35-year-old later revealed that she wanted to do more in WWE and ring announcing was only her way in.

The former ring announcer's comments invited massive backlash from fans on social media. On the latest episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Samantha Irvin's fiance, Ricochet, opened up about the situation. The One and Only said many expected to see Irvin in the business forever, and they were disappointed when she decided to pursue a career outside pro wrestling.

“I think she broke the tradition of wrestling. Again, you have people who are in it forever. Look at Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles, because they’ve been doing it for so long, and they’re still in it, they’re still doing that. So I think especially when wrestling fans find something that makes them feel good and makes what they like watching better, they just want it forever. I watch One Piece. It’s on 1,100 episodes. I want more episodes, I don’t want it to stop.” [H/T: chrisvanvliet.com]

Ricochet joined AEW after leaving WWE

Ricochet shockingly departed from the Stamford-based promotion earlier this year. He decided not to renew his contract after it expired in July. At the AEW All In pay-per-view, The One and Only made his debut in the Jacksonville-based promotion. Since his arrival, he has had some of his best matches against Kyle Fletcher, Konosuke Takeshita, and Will Ospreay.

The former WWE star recently sent a message to IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. They will now lock horns at the 2025 Wrestle Dynasty pay-per-view.

Fans will have to wait and see what's in store for Ricochet at Wrestle Dynasty in January.
