Shelton Benjamin fires shots at female WWE star after The New Day splits up on RAW
Shelton Benjamin and his AEW colleagues, along with the rest of the wrestling world, remain shocked by The New Day's split on Monday's WWE RAW. The group's 10th anniversary celebration ended with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turning on Big E. Benjamin has responded to a curious statement from Kingston, with a shot at another familiar face from WWE.
The Gold Standard and Mia Yim have a friendship that goes back to 2011 and has played out on social media for fans to see. At times, the public jabs between the two were so harsh that many fans believed there was genuine heat between the former WWE Intercontinental Champion and the former TNA Knockouts World Champion. Michin and Shelton also brought other wrestlers in on their trolling.
In September 2021, Big E and Bobby Lashley faced off for the WWE Championship on RAW. The match ended when Benjamin and Cedric Alexander assisted The All Mighty, which led to a brawl with The New Day. This then led to Michin jokingly putting a $20 bounty on Shelton's head, calling for one of The New Day's members to take her best friend and "big brother" out.
After Monday's RAW, Michin took to X/Twitter to praise The New Day, referring to how Big E is in a relationship with her sister and Woods booking her against Benjamin on UpUpDownDown. The SmackDown star added that she didn't owe Kingston $20 for the abovementioned bounty.
"The New Day. One of the best WWE groups ever. I don’t owe @TrueKofi$20, @AustinCreedWins let me whoop @Sheltyb803butt on UUDD Publicly, and @WWEBigEis now family. I love them all.#WWERaw," Michin wrote.
The $20 bounty was referenced again when Kingston tweeted about how he woke up feeling brand new, seemingly satisfied with the split on RAW. Benjamin responded and jokingly mentioned how none of this would have happened if they had tried to collect the aforementioned bounty.
"None of this would have happened if someone had just paid the $20. #blameMia," Shelton Benjamin wrote.
Shelton Benjamin and Kofi Kingston wrestled each other numerous times in 2007 and 2008, then Kofi defeated Shelton on RAW in December 2020. The feud between The New Day and The Hurt Business saw both teams trade the RAW Tag Team Championship.
The last standard tag bout between the two took place on RAW in October 2021, when Woods and Kingston defeated Benjamin and Alexander.
Shelton Benjamin on tonight's AEW Dynamite
All Elite Wrestling will return to Indianapolis, IN, tonight for a live Dynamite from Fishers Event Center. The Continental Classic will continue tonight with Week Two.
C2 Blue League action for tonight's Dynamite will see Shelton Benjamin take on Kyle Fletcher. Tonight's Gold League match will feature Brody King vs. Claudio Castagnoli.
Shelton Benjamin has three C2 points after defeating Mark Briscoe last week. Fletcher also has three points for his win over The Beast Mortos. Castagnoli picked up three points for his victory over Ricochet, while King also had three points for defeating Darby Allin.
