Nigel McGuinness on facing Bryan Danielson in a non-title match at AEW Grand Slam
The dream match between Nigel McGuinness and Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam is set to be a non-title match. Nigel McGuinness has opened up about not challenging for Bryan's AEW World Title in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
In a recent interview with TVInsider, Nigel McGuinness explained why he didn't challenge Bryan Danielson for the world title. The former ROH World Champion stated that he has only come back to prove that he's on par with Bryan Danielson and if it wasn't for his injuries, he would have had the same success as The American Dragon.
"I’m not looking for any kind of resolution other than when people call Bryan the best wrestler in the world and lord him and all those awards he has as the best technical wrestler. I think he paid for those, I’m not sure. I want to show I was as good as him and if I can beat him at Arthur Ashe, I can prove that. It’s not about the AEW title. It is prestigious but I’m not coming back to win the title, but coming back to show I was as good as Bryan Danielson. That if fortune had given me the right hand, I would have had the same success," said McGuinness. [H/T - TVInsider]
Bryan Danielson has not been seen in All Elite Wrestling since All Out 2024. It will be interesting to see how his match against Nigel McGuinness at Grand Slam turns out.
