Sting will face WWE legend for the first time in nearly 13 years in his last AEW match, claims veteranĀ [Exclusive]
Following his announcement regarding his in-ring retirement, Sting could take on a former long-time rival and WWE Hall of Famer after over a decade, as per a wrestling veteran.
Last week on AEW Dynamite, Sting announced that the Revolution 2024 PPV will be his last as an in-ring competitor. Ever since his retirement announcement, the wrestling world has begun speculating who The Icon's final opponent before hanging up his boots could be.
A potential opponent whose name has made more rounds in the ongoing discussion happens to be The Nature Boy, Ric Flair. The Stinger mentioned and thanked Flair during his promo on Dynamite as well. Furthermore, the two legends also share a lot of history in the wrestling business.
Meanwhile, former WWE writer Vince Russo believes that Flair would indeed be Sting's last opponent, citing Tony Khan's recently surfaced picture with Ric and his wife. Speaking exclusively on Wrestling with Russo, Vince Russo claimed the following:
"A photo has just surfaced of [Ric] Flair and his wife and Tony Khan and his girlfriend. Bro what have we heard more than once out of Flair's mouth [...] There you go, bro, Flair vs. Sting. You don't think Tony Khan? bro, do you know how much money Ric Flair can get out of Tony Khan for that? Do you not think that's going to be a buggy spot in his ear?"
Russo continued:
"That's what it's going to be, he's going to get Flair's last match on television against Sting in his last match, that's what it's going to be bro. Because if not, they would've made the announcement already, they would've said who his opponent is already." [0:57-1:58]
Flair and Sting last faced each other in 2011, over at Impact Wrestling, with the latter coming out on top.
Tony Khan is set to present a surprise gift to the WWE Hall of Famer this week on AEW Dynamite
Following his emotional retirement announcement, WWE Hall of Famer Sting is slated to receive a special gift from AEW President and CEO Tony Khan, this Wednesday on Dynamite.
Meanwhile, speculation is running wild, as some think The Icon will be the first inductee into the All Elite Hall of Fame, while others think TK will reveal his last opponent. Overall, it remains to be seen what the gift turns out to be.
