Swerve Strickland shares a cryptic post ahead of former WWE champion's imminent free agency
The current AEW World Champion, Swerve Strickland shared a cryptic message for a recently released WWE Superstar who is set to enter free agency. The star was released from the promotion earlier this year.
The former WWE champion in question is Trevor Lee (fka Cameron Grimes). The 30-year-old star made his debut in the Stamford-based promotion back in 2019. He had a decent run on the developmental brand from 2019 to 2023, as he also won the North American championship. Trevor Lee was drafted to SmackDown last year.
However, the Alpha of Omega had an underwhelming run on the main roster. In April this year, Cameron Grimes was released from the WWE, and he broke down in tears announcing his release. He last appeared on an episode of SmackDown where he got squashed by Bron Breakker. Along with his release, Trevor Lee also had a 90-day non-compete clause in his contract.
Meanwhile, the non-compete clause in Trevor Lee's contract is close to ending. Lee took to the 'X' social media platform recently to share the news that he will be a free agent after just one more week. Interestingly, the AEW World Champion, Swerve Strickland reacted to Lee's post, which could also be a tease of Trevor going All Elite.
"⏳," Swerve posted.
Swerve Strickland will main event AEW All In 2024 against Bryan Danielson
Swerve Strickland became the AEW World Champion at the Dynasty pay-per-view earlier this year. He has had a decent title reign since then, as he also defeated Will Ospreay at Forbidden Door. Meanwhile, Swerve is likely set to headline All In 2024 in Wembley Stadium against the winner of the Owen Hart Cup, Bryan Danielson.
Ahead of the Wembley show, Swerve is slated to take on the AEW Continental champion, Kazuchika Okada this Wednesday on Dynamite. It remains to be seen what transpires between Swerve and Okada this week.
