Taz gets emotional as Hook officially retires FTW Championship on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam

Former WWE Superstar Taz was heartbroken after HOOK handed him the FTW Championship at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. He is part of the commentary desk.

WWE veteran introduced the FTW Championship in 1998 during his ECW career. He bought the title as his world title. He and Sabu were the only FTW Champions in the promotion. In 1999, the 56-year-old star unified it with the ECW World Heavyweight Championship.

Taz managed a faction that consisted of Powerhouse Hobbs, Ricky Starks, Brian Cage, Dante Martin, and his son Hook. The group was founded by the ECW World Television Champion in 2020. He crowned Brian Cage as the new FTW Champion. It was later held by Ricky Starks, Jack Perry, and Hook.

The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil briefly feuded with Chris Jericho for the title. After the latter held the championship for over two months, he dropped it again to Hook at AEW All In 2024. Following the match, the ECW veteran shared a cryptic statement regarding the future of the FTW Title.

The 25-year-old star was scheduled to face Roderick Strong at Dynamite: Grand Slam. The duo engaged in a stellar contest, and the champion retained. Following the contest, Hook retired the title and handed the FTW championship back to its rightful owner, Taz. The latter was emotional while taking the title back from his son.

It remains to be seen what is next for the AEW star now that Hook has retired title.
