Taz provides a major health update amid AEW absence: "It was just brutal"
Former WWE Superstar Taz recently provided an update on his health amid his absence from AEW. He also revealed why he had to undergo surgery.
Taz is considered a legend in the pro wrestling landscape and he gained prominence during his time in ECW back in the 1990s. He also had a brief in-ring career in WWE before he transitioned into becoming a commentator. The 57-year-old veteran is currently signed to AEW as a color commentator.
The former ECW World Heavyweight Champion has been dealing with some health issues lately. He was written off TV recently because he had to undergo knee replacement surgery. While speaking on The Infamous Smoke Show, Taz revealed why he had to undergo the surgery:
"I tried everything…I’m 57, right, so I wanted to wait until I was 65 to get the replacement. I just could wait. It was just brutal. I couldn’t go to work, I couldn’t walk in an arena backstage. I couldn’t walk in airports. You go to make a connection flight, and I got too much pride to get wheeled around. I’m just not gonna do that. Yeah, whatever. I got my own issues, right?" Taz further provided an update on his recovery stating that his arthritis is gone:
"The knee replacement thing, I’m recovering. I’m doing a lot of physical therapy now, three days a week. I do a lot of home therapy too. You gotta really work out that prosthetic and the quad and all that. I was always nervous to get it done, but I’m only five weeks out, and if you need it, get it done because I already feel relief. The arthritis is gone. It’s nice." [H/T Fightful]
Taz has been off AEW programming due to a kayfabe injury
While Taz has been absent from AEW programming as he underwent knee replacement surgery, he had to be written off through a kayfabe attack. The ECW legend had informed that he was attacked in the parking lot. Taz's son, Hook, later found out that it was Christian Cage of The Patriarchy who was behind the attack.
Only time will tell when Taz will make his return following his recovery and what role he plays in the ongoing feud between his son, Hook, and Christian Cage.
