Taz sends a big message to six former champions after the FTW title is retired
Taz's son HOOK officially retired the FTW Championship belt on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam 2024. The 56-year-old legend wrote a message to six former champions (Sabu, Brian Cage, Ricky Starks, Chris Jericho, HOOK, and Jack Perry) who have all held the title in the past at various points, following the retirement of the title.
On this week's Dynamite's special episode, the 25-year-old star took on Roderick Strong in a singles bout. After the former retained his championship, he walked over to his father sitting at the announce table. He retired the belt and handed it over to him. The father-son duo then shared a sentimental moment as they hugged each other.
Following the show, the AEW commentator logged onto his X/Twitter account to share a heartfelt message. He thanked all the stars who held the championship belt. He also expressed his gratitude to all those fans who supported and enjoyed the championship during his ECW and AEW run. He wrote:
"I would like to thank all of the men whom have held the FTW Championship…. @TheRealSabuECW @briancagegmsi @starkmanjones @boy_myth_legend @IAmJericho & @730hook And also any fan that has supported/enjoyed this championship during the ECW years or in modern day wrestling during the current AEW years…thank you."
Tony Khan sends two-word message to Taz after Hook retires FTW Championship
Shortly after The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil retired the title at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam 2024, AEW President Tony Khan took to his X/Twitter account to share a brief message to The Tazmaniac and thanked him for his contribution to the pro wrestling industry.
"Thank you @OfficialTAZ! #AEWDynamite Grand Slam tonight, live right NOW on @TBSNetwork!" Khan tweeted.
The FTW title was originally introduced in ECW by the former ECW World Heavyweight Champion who created and designed the belt himself. The wrestling legend revived the belt in AEW in 2020.
