Tension between Tony Khan and Eric Bischoff intensifies; AEW President retaliates
Eric Bischoff is someone who has constantly provided criticism for both Tony Khan and AEW in the last few years. Recently, Khan addressed these comments from the former WCW veteran.
Bischoff has commented regarding the promotion, their product, and the way that they have been operating. A few days ago, he went on a rant about them, claiming that there was no more hope for them, despite the opportunities they have been given. He felt that there was no one working to make improvements.
During a recent appearance on K&C Masterpiece, Tony Khan responded to Eric Bischoff's comments. He was unfazed by any of them as he felt that AEW has been doing well. He mentioned their success, having shows on both TBS and TNT, and how they have the chance to reach the milestone as the longest on air pro wrestling show on TNT.
"I have no idea. I don't really care what he says. We have done really, really well and we have a great thing going with AEW and something to be really proud of. We're not only, for years to come, be doing shows on TBS and TNT, but we're going to set the record for the longest run of pro wrestling ever on TNT. It's pretty amazing because for a company only five years old, we've accomplished so much."
He continued by mentioning their new media rights deal, and their simulcast on MAX which starts in January.
"We're going to have AEW every Wednesday night and every Saturday night on MAX, in addition to TNT. It's really important for us because cable is massive and massive for sports and wrestling. TNT and TBS are staples of cable, as Eric himself knows very well, but it's really important for the future to also have a foothold in streaming, and that's what we're going to have now with AEW on MAX. I think AEW is doing fantastic." [H/T - Fightful]
Eric Bischoff recently praised one of AEW's big matches
During a recent edition of his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff talked about one of AEW's matches that took place on Full Gear a few weeks ago. This would be Big Boom AJ's match against QT Marshall.
He praised the match as it had great energy, and he found this interesting. Eric Bischoff admitted that he hasn't watched the match, but he has heard from many that it over-delivered. He hoped that the promotion would begin to do matches of the sort and other ways to be entertaining.
"It's probably the best thing they've got going or have had going in quite some time in just in terms of energy and the virality of it, how much it's spreading around. It's interesting, and I didn't watch the match, so I'm not going to comment on it, but I heard from just about everybody that the match was highly, highly entertaining and over-delivered, which is awesome, and shout-out to everybody involved... I hope they continue to do it. I hope they find more ways of being more entertaining." [H/T - Wrestling Inc.]
Eric Bischoff has been clearly keeping up his criticisms of AEW, but with their media rights deal being in effect soon, this could be their path to making a bounce back.
