"That’s something I’ll never do again" - AEW veteran Jake Roberts confirms major commitment

AEW's Jake Roberts is a pro wrestling legend who has been through his fair share of ups and downs. He recently confirmed his commitment to never go down a certain dark road again.

Jake 'The Snake' Roberts was a massive star between 1986 and 1992. During this time, he wrestled for WWE, where he was a top heel. The pressure of being a main event act seemingly got to him, and he got addicted to alcohol.

Roberts' addiction got the best of him at times. However, the AEW veteran has now fought his way to sobriety and has even detailed his experiences battling addiction in the past. During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, the wrestling veteran noted that even the smell of alcohol made him sick in his stomach. The Hall of Famer was confident he would never be addicted to liquor again.

“You know, for me, the smell of alcohol turns my stomach,” he said. “I can walk through an airport blindfolded and I could tell you where the bars are at because I can tell that smell, you know? And it upsets my stomach now. And I’m glad. The last da*n thing I need is to go down that road again. And I have no fear at all— maybe that’s not healthy, not having a fear of it—but I just feel so strongly that that’s something I’ll never do again.” [H/T: F4WOnline]

AEW veteran Jake Roberts commented on his journey to sobriety

Several stars like Dustin Rhodes, Jon Moxley, and Jeff Hardy have suffered from alcohol addiction in the past. Wrestling veteran Jake Roberts also struggled to get rid of the habit at one point.

During the same podcast episode, Jake Roberts said overcoming his demons took a lot of hard work and effort. He also credited fellow Hall of Famer DDP for saving his life.

“A lot of damn work. It took a lot of work, and a lot of patience, and some good friends,” Roberts said. “No doubt in my mind, I’d have been dead several years ago [without DDP]. Several years ago. That’s just where I was going, man. And I was going fast, too.” [H/T: F4WOnline]

Jake Roberts is now doing some of his best work since his in-ring retirement in AEW.
