The Young Bucks' AEW World Tag Team Title reign could be in jeopardy after former champions' warning
Former ROH World Tag Team Champions seemingly called out the current AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks. The stars lost their recent match and are looking for a new direction.
The former champions in question are Matt Taven and Mike Bennett of The Undisputed Kingdom. The duo lost their ROH World Tag Team Championship last month to Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara. On AEW Collision last Saturday, Dustin and Sammy defended their titles against Taven and Bennett in a bunkhouse brawl.
Mike Bennett and Matt Taven failed to regain the ROH World Tag Team Championship after a brutal match. Following their loss, Taven and Bennett delivered an exclusive backstage promo explaining their bonding. After talking about their loss on Collision, Matt Taven shifted his focus to the reigning AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks.
Taven recalled how he and Bennett defeated Matthew and Nicholas Jackson in Ring of Honor (ROH):
"Dustin and Sammy, you guys won in a bunkhouse brawl, have you ever heard about 'bunkhouse brawl' in Ring of Honor? It says honor in the name. I don't know man, I think you're right, I think we need a new trend, a new path, going into different directions. We'll always have our sights on the Ring of Honor [World] Tag Team Titles but what about those AEW [World] Tag Team Titles? The Young Bucks are the team that we beat for our first reign as Ring of Honor champions." [1:46 - 2:11]
The Undisputed Kingdom on their goal aside from The Young Bucks
Apart from mentioning The Young Bucks and the AEW World Tag Team Championship, Matt Taven also reflected on The Undisputed Kingdom's goal of holding gold as their stablemate, Roderick Strong, is set for an FTW Championship match against Hook at AEW Grand Slam next week. Taven stated the following:
"I think maybe we need to rebuild this Kingdom a little bit, and it all starts at the Grand Slam with Roderick Strong. He becomes the FTW Champion and then we put gold back on our shoulders, the three of us, we rebuild this from the ground up because we're The Kingdom, The Undisputed Kingdom." [2:12 - 2:31]
Only time will tell whether The Young Bucks respond to the acknowledgment by The Undisputed Kingdom and if a title match between the two teams is inevitable.
