Tommy Dreamer praises AEW star’s mic work; draws comparison to Shawn Michaels and RVD
Wrestling veteran Tommy Dreamer praised an AEW star's mic work and compared him to WWE legends such as Shawn Michaels and RVD.
Will Ospreay is swiftly emerging as one of the most popular stars of AEW. Since his arrival, he has put on several highly acclaimed matches, most recently defeating Bryan Danielson at Dynasty 2024. He is scheduled to challenge Roderick Strong for the latter's International Championship at the upcoming pay-per-view Double or Nothing 2024.
On a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, Tommy Dreamer praised The Aerial Assassin's ability to deliver promos. Honoring Ospreay as an in-ring competitor of the same caliber as Rob Van Dam and Shawn Michaels, the ECW legend emphasized the English star's skills on the microphone on AEW television.
"I have been blown away with Will Ospreay's mic work," Dreamer said. "[He's] known as a great professional wrestler, perhaps one of the best professional wrestlers... I will throw him in the category of a Rob Van Dam [or] a Shawn Michaels for how he has risen to be this must-see type of person. But then his promos have really, really been good."
Dreamer addressed Ospreay's backstage interview with Roderick Strong on last week's episode of Dynamite and applauded the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion for constructing a compelling story for his upcoming title match against the Undisputed Kingdom member, centered around Strong's lack of respect for Ospreay.
"Match is gonna be killer, and then — okay, where do we go from here? A personal issue," Dreamer continued. "I believe it. I love it, and [it] really, really got me hooked." [H/T Wrestling Inc]
AEW International Champion Roderick Strong sent a message to Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay earned a shot at the AEW International Championship set for Double or Nothing 2024 after winning a star-studded Casino Gauntlet match on Dynamite last month. Since then, tensions have escalated between the 31-year-old star and his opponent for the upcoming pay-per-view, Roderick Strong.
In a recent backstage exclusive, The Messiah of the Backbreaker sent a heated message to Ospreay. Strong claimed he would defeat the Don Callis Family member in Las Vegas later this week.
"Will Ospreay, I want you to listen to me very clearly. Next Sunday cannot come fast enough. Sleep will not be my friend because I cannot wait. I cannot wait to get my hands on you and to end this all. Because I'm a wrestling legend. I'm a wrestling legend. I'm The Messiah of the Backbreaker. At Double or Nothing, the Assassin ends! He's done! Finished! Gone!"
It remains to be seen whether a new International Champion will be crowned at Double or Nothing 2024.
