Tommy Dreamer unhappy with former WWE name's shots at Bryan Danielson on AEW Dynamite
Tommy Dreamer was not happy that a former WWE figure took several shots at Bryan Danielson on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite. The star in question is Nigel McGuinness.
After a six-year stint in the Stamford-based company, Nigel McGuinness signed with All Elite Wrestling in 2023, where he performs commentary primarily on AEW Collision alongside Tony Schiavone. However, the English star made a notable appearance on Dynamite this week to announce the final match of the Men's 2024 Owen Hart Cup, which saw Bryan Danielson defeat Hangman Adam Page to win the tournament.
McGuinness shared an intense rivalry with The American Dragon during their time in ROH, clashing several times over the ROH World Championship. The two men even wrestled each other in their last match for the promotion in 2009. Since joining AEW, Nigel has continued his disdain for Danielson and has taken several shots on multiple occasions at the veteran.
Veteran wrestler Tommy Dreamer, however, was not a fan of Nigel McGuinness' commentary on this week's Dynamite. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, the hardcore legend critiqued the 48-year-old commentator for supposedly talking over Bryan Danielson's victory. Dreamer felt McGuinness' commentary failed to strike the balance between being a heel act and coming off as disrespectful towards Owen Hart.
"When it's a moment, the way it should be, especially when we're talking about Owen Hart, there's a difference between being a heel commentator and putting yourself over. I'm a big Nigel McGuinness fan, [but] there's a time and place for everything," Dreamer noted. [H/T, Wrestling Inc]
Bryan Danielson will head to AEW All In 2024 to face Swerve Strickland
Having beaten Hangman Page on Dynamite in the Owen Hart Tournament finals, Bryan Danielson is poised to square off against Swerve Strickland at All In 2024. The New Flavour confronted the former WWE Champion shortly after he was handed the Owen Cup.
Afterward, he cut a promo congratulating Danielson for his victory and expressing excitement over their upcoming title bout. Swerve reminded fans that the 43-year-old star holds a victory over him, and voiced the desire to outperform his challenger in the coming weeks by succeeding at endeavors Danielson failed at this year.
To that end, Strickland revealed that he was joining Team AEW for Blood and Guts 2024 to lead them to victory against The Elite. He also challenged Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada to a singles match, which was later made official.
On the women's side, Mariah May defeated Willow Nightingale to win the Women's Owen Hart Tournament. However, she stunned fans by betraying and brutalizing her ally, Women's World Champion Toni Storm, immediately afterward.
