Tommy Dreamer wants to see former WWE Superstar win AEW World Championship before retiring
Tommy Dreamer recently spoke about how he wanted to see a certain former WWE Superstar winning the AEW World Championship play out, and how it would be nice if this was his retirement match. The former star mentioned here was Bryan Danielson.
The American Dragon won the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament this past week, defeating Hangman Adam Page in the final. This meant that he was also earning a world title shot against Swerve Strickland at All In. With his final year as a full-time wrestler coming to a close, his biggest match awaits him next month.
During a recent edition of the Busted Open Radio, Tommy Dreamer painted a picture of the atmosphere should Bryan Danielson win the world title. He said this would be an iconic moment reminiscent of Terry Funk winning the ECW Championship in 1997 at ECW Barely Legal.
"Could you see Bryan Danielson, confetti flying, 'Final Countdown' going, and he's your champion, and everyone - fifty/sixty thousand - going 'Yes, yes, yes?' That's gonna be a moment," Dreamer imagined, comparing it to another famous title win. "Honestly - I hope it captures the emotion of Terry Funk [winning the ECW Championship] at Barely Legal."
The WWE legend then brought up how he wished that this was Bryan's retirement match as the emotion in the moment may be doubled. He noted that AEW did a great job with Sting, and so he believed that this could be a great moment as well.
"I don't think it's gonna be his last match - I kinda wish it was, because of the more emotion that I could get into, but, that's just me," Dreamer said. [H/T - WrestlingInc.]
The former WWE Champion may have someone lined up to face him should he win at All In
At All In, Bryan Danielson is set to face Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship, but it seems that someone else is already interested in a rematch in the near future, this being Will Ospreay.
A few weeks ago, while being interviewed on Busted Open Radio, Will Ospreay talked about how he'd love to face Bryan Danielson, but he wanted a twist this time, which was him coming out to "Final Countdown."
He talked about how his match against him at Dynasty was incredible, but it was just missing that minor detail.
“I would love to do Bryan Danielson again, just because he is in the Owen Hart Cup,” Will Ospreay said. “It feels right. But there’s one thing that needs to happen this time around, though. He’s got to come out to ‘Final Countdown.’ Just because I love that moments I had with him at Dynasty. It was just a strange moment where I’m looking at my hero, but I was like, something was missing." [H/T - Wrestlezone]
Should the former WWE Champion be successful in dethroning Swerve at All In, it seems that Will Ospreay may be the one who will look to challenge him, in his final few days as a full-time wrestler.
