Toni Storm replaced after retirement announcement; former WWE star's debut announced
Former AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm is set to be replaced by a former WWE Superstar for one of her previously announced matches. This comes amid her "retirement" from the industry following her losing streak.
Deonna Purrazzo has made a name for herself by competing in several major promotions around the world. Apart from signing with AEW earlier this year, she has competed in AAA, NXT, Stardom, and TNA and will debut in CMLL next month.
The Mexican promotion has just announced that The Virtuosa will be in action against "La Diva" La Catalina on December 13 in Arena, Mexico. Previously, Toni Storm was set to compete in a tag team match alongside Red Velvet against La Catalina and Tessa Blanchard, but plans have changed since then.
Toni Storm set to make AEW return soon
The Timeless One has not been seen on the promotion since All In back in August, where she dropped her Women's World Championship to Mariah May.
She has made appearances for promotions outside AEW, such as CMLL and STARDOM, but has not found as much success. This influenced her decision to "retire" from wrestling.
Fightful Select recently reported that Toni Storm may soon make her long-awaited return to the promotion. Tony Khan was asked about her status, and he mentioned how she was here to stay. There has yet to be a timeline regarding her potential return to the company.
Her bitter rival, Mariah May, is currently in a feud with another former best friend of hers, who she betrayed in Mina Shirakawa. Storm could return in the middle of this storyline, as she, too, has a bone to pick with The Glamour.
AEW is set to hold a pay-per-view in Australia in February. The promotion may be building her up for an appearance or a match on the show. Only time will tell how this all goes down.
