"Tony and I had several conversations" - Former WWE star teases return to AEW TV after more than two years
AEW CEO Tony Khan has done a decent job in building the ROH brand. The current ROH Women's World Champion Athena recently revealed that she has had talks with Khan about returning to All Elite Wrestling television.
In 2022, Athena moved to ROH after debuting in AEW a couple of months before. She won the ROH Women's World Championship at ROH Final Battle PPV and has managed to remain champion which makes her the longest-reigning champion in the promotion's history. Athena is set to defend her title against Billie Starkz at Final Battle PPV on December 20th.
Speaking in an interview with Denise Salcedo, Athena revealed that she has had conversations with Tony Khan about moving to AEW. The ROH Women's Champion said that a time period is set for her return to the division.
"I love that they want to see me on All Elite Wrestling, but at the same time, like, I've always wanted more. I'll say that first and foremost, Tony [Khan] and I had several conversations about 'Hey, I would like to do more with AEW. Hey, I would like to do more with Dynamite, Rampage, whatever.' We've had those conversations — those conversations have been had, and there is a time period where that's going to happen." [H/T: WrestlingInc]
Athena says she's better than AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone
The ROH Women's World Champion has been teasing a move to the All Elite Wrestling roster. Athena has conquered the ROH Women's division for the past two years and is looking forward to the competition in All Elite Wrestling's women's division.
In a recent chat with Denise Salcedo, Athena spoke about a potential match against Mercedes Mone. The ROH Women's Word Champion claimed that she has more experience and is better than the TBS Champion.
"The only difference between me and her is I have more experience, and I am more hungry. I don't have to do a little hip swivel dance and say, 'I got money!' No, I got grit; I got determination, and I got these two fists that will dot those eyes, hussy. So at the end of the day, like, I know that I'm better than her; it's a matter of showing the world that I'm better than her. At the same time, I'm curious how it would go," she added.
The fans will have to wait and see when Athena gets moved to All Elite Wrestling's women's division under Tony Khan.
