Tony Khan announces 48-year-old legend "will stay in AEW" for the rest of the summer

The AEW President and CEO, Tony Khan disclosed that an NJPW legend is slated to stay with his promotion for the remainder of the summer this year. The revelation was made after the legend's appearance on Dynamite this week.

The 48-year-old legend in question is Tomohiro Ishii. The NJPW legend made his return on AEW last month and has been often competing on the shows. After his multi-man match at the Forbidden Door, pay-per-view, Ishii squared off against PAC, Claudio Castagnoli, and Kyle Fletcher in a four-way match on Dynamite this past Wednesday.

The winner of the four-way match was slated to challenge the International champion. Ishii failed to win the bout, unfortunately, as PAC was the one to secure the victory in the four-way match. Furthermore, Tomohiro recently came up short and couldn't qualify for the upcoming G1 Climax tournament this year which is set to commence this month.

Nevertheless, the AEW President, Tony Khan had good news for the fans regarding Tomohiro Ishii. Khan took to the 'X' social media platform to inform that Ishii will stay with the company for the rest of the summer. Here is what Tony wrote in his tweet:

"It's so great having @njpwglobal all-time legend Tomohiro Ishii here in AEW on Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite TONIGHT! We love having Ishii here + now he's going to stay here in @AEW with us for the rest of summer 2024!"

Tony Khan brought multiple NJPW stars to AEW

Although AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view is a crossover pay-per-view where the stars of both prominent promotions lock horns, Tony Khan loves having New Japan stars on his promotion during this season.

Apart from Tomohiro Ishii, Khan also called Shigo Takagi to perform on Collision before his match against Bryan Danielson. Furthermore, Hiroshi Tanahashi also made an appearance on TV just like last few years.

Moreover, the relationship between AEW and NJPW continues to flourish as both the promotion's stars can be seen in either company throughout the year. Only time will tell what's next in the ongoing relationship.
