Tony Khan announces new Undisputed Championship for AEW Dynasty

Tony Khan has officially announced a new Undisputed Championship for the inaugural edition of the upcoming pay-per-view, AEW Dynasty 2024.

The Bang Bang Gang (also known as Bullet Club Gold) issued a challenge to their former allies, The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn, on this week's episode of Dynamite. It was later announced they would battle in a winner-takes-all match for the ROH World Six Man Titles and the AEW World Trios Titles. The latter accepted the challenge, resulting in the match being made official for the upcoming pay-per-view.

During a recent media call ahead of the event, Tony Khan revealed that the trios belts from the two brands would be unified in the imminent title bout, and the winners will be crowned as the new Undisputed Trios Champions.

"The winner of the match will be the Undisputed World Trios Champions. I think that's very cool and it'll create a lot of great opportunities for the top trios out there," Khan said on today's call. "I think it's very exciting, you know, some consolidation and unification of championships."

The AEW President further revealed that the match announcement was delayed due to an undisclosed injury, although he did not provide any details about who had sustained it.

"We had an injury this past week and I'd been waiting to confirm this match on the card," Khan continued. "When we got the clearance from the doctors I was really excited to be able to add this match to the card." [H/T Wrestling Observer]

The road so far for The Acclaimed and Bullet Club Gold heading to AEW Dynasty 2024

Bullet Club Gold and The Acclaimed had joined forces earlier this year to form The Bang Bang Scissor Gang. Their alliance ended on Dynamite: Big Business when Jay White battered Billy Gunn with a steel chair and The Gunns turned on their father.

Jay White, Austin Gunn, and Colten Gunn continued to provoke the World Trios Champions, going so far as to break into Billy Gunn's house. This led to a singles match between White and the WWE Hall of Famer.

The match stirred some controversy for its one-sidedness and finish, as the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion took a disqualification loss after interference from Austin and Colten.

Both sides have been firing heavy shots at each other over the past weeks. With the trios titles unification match having been officially announced, it remains to be seen which team comes out on top in the Chaifetz Arena at AEW Dynasty 2024.
