Tony Khan gives big update on AEW's future - "Most important deal we'll ever make"
Tony Khan has given a major update about AEW's future. This comes during a crucial time for the company.
It has been nearly five years since AEW first launched. Since then, the promotion has come a long way, making some changes to its presentation, adding a few more shows, and increasing its roster size. Despite all these changes, All Elite Wrestling has seen a decline in the viewership of its weekly shows at different points.
The timing of the attendance and viewership issues couldn't be worse, as the company has seemingly been negotiating a media rights deal with Warner Bros. Discover. Until now, both parties have remained silent on the matter, which has been a cause for concern for many fans and professionals.
In an interview with Q101, Tony Khan said AEW was on the verge of securing the most important deal in its history. He also claimed that the company was going to turn profitable after jumping into the media rights agreement.
Khan's statement might indicate that WBD and the Jacksonville-based company are close to signing a new contract.
“Right now is the most important time ever in AEW. We're on the verge of the most important deal we'll ever make. I think now, over five years, it's really been building to this point where AEW's going to jump into the media rights and be a very profitable, successful company.”
Bryan Danielson highlights main difference between Tony Khan and Triple H
Bryan Danielson has had the pleasure of performing for both WWE and AEW. He has worked with pro wrestling bigwigs like Vince McMahon, Triple H, and Tony Khan. Hence, he is in the best position to draw a comparison between Khan and The Game.
During a recent interview with Gorilla Position, Bryan Danielson mentioned that Khan was kind. He also mentioned that while he had a great relationship with McMahon and The Game, they both weren't kind.
“Tony's super kind. He's a super kind human being and I haven't had a boss like that. I had a great relationship with Vince and with Hunter and when I was in Ring of Honor, I had a great relationship with Gabe Sapolsky. None of them were particularly kind. You know what I mean? Like they don't, you know, in the sense of like, treating everyone nicely, like all that kind of stuff, and that's been really refreshing,” Danielson said. [43:56 - 44:32]
Bryan Danielson is set to take on Swerve Strickland in a title vs. career match at AEW All In 2024. It remains to be seen which star will reign supreme in London, England.
