Tony Khan officially announces former WWE stars' first-time-ever match in AEW

AEW President Tony Khan has announced a first-time-ever match between two former WWE Superstars. The bout will take place on Dynamite next Wednesday.

On Collision this week, Lio Rush appeared in a backstage segment and seemingly teased joining forces with MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and his former partner, Bobby Lashley, in The Hurt Syndicate. Rush also called out the faction's current rival, Swerve Strickland.

After the challenge was issued, AEW President Tony Khan took to X/Twitter to officially announce a match between Lio Rush and Swerve Strickland for Dynamite next week. Tony Khan wrote the following about the upcoming contest:

"This Wed, 11/13, Bridgeport, CT Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite TBS 8pm ET/7pm CT @IamLioRush vs @swerveconfident, The challenge was made tonight on #AEWCollision now for the first time in AEW, before #AEWFullGear, The Man of The Hour Lio Rush will fight Swerve Strickland WEDNESDAY!"

Lio Rush and Strickland were part of WWE before joining AEW. However, they have yet to square off in a one-on-one match. Going by Rush's latest promo, The Hurt Syndicate is expected to play a role in the bout's outcome. It remains to be seen who will reign supreme on the Wednesday night program.
