Tony Khan has reportedly 'left the door open' for former WWE name in AEW
AEW President Tony Khan is reportedly leaving the door open for former WWE personality Charly Arnolt (fka Charly Caruso). The latter has hinted at a possible move to the Jacksonville-based promotion.
Arnolt departed WWE in March 2021 and subsequently joined ESPN full-time. However, she left ESPN and joined OutKick in April 2023, sparking speculation about her future in the pro wrestling industry.
In an interview with Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald, Arnolt revealed that she has discussed joining AEW and believes Tony Khan has "left the door open" for her.
"Oh yeah, absolutely. I think Tony has always left the door open there. I’ve been very just, and ESPN wasn’t so keen on letting me do other opportunities while I was under their roof," Arnolt said.
Furthermore, she said she couldn't do many external projects while she was with ESPN, but she could do it now:
"So yeah, potentially now. But then there’s also the idea of Endeavor, who owns UFC, who I already work for, now owns WWE. So listen, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some type of crossover happening with another wrestling company down the road. Who’s to say, right?" [H/T - Fightful]
It is worth noting that this is not the first time Arnolt has teased the possibility of joining AEW. Almost two years ago, when she initially departed from WWE, she hinted at a potential move to the promotion.
Charly Arnolt on friendship with Tony Khan unexpectedly led to WWE's offer
Charly Arnolt revealed that her friendship with AEW President Tony Khan had a major impact on her WWE career.
On the same show, Arnolt recalled how Khan invited her to a SmackDown show in 2016. After they spent time together backstage, she unexpectedly received a job offer from WWE
“It was never on my radar to, you know, apply to WWE. I simultaneously had a job offer to be a news anchor in Washington D.C. at the FOX-owned and operated station there and I also then get a job offer from WWE after the introduction — I made the introduction through the time I was backstage with Tony so, the way that happened was not intended but it was a great opportunity," Arnolt said.
The connection between Tony Khan and Charly Arnolt highlights the significance of unexpected relationships and the doors they can open in the wrestling industry.
