Tony Khan seemingly confirms blockbuster AEW plans - "It has to happen"

AEW has established itself as an international touring company, but the promotion has not yet visited the USA's southern neighbor, Mexico, despite having a strong alliance with major lucha promotion CMLL. Tony Khan believes that will change in the future.

AEW established relations with AAA early in its history, but its partnership with CMLL has allowed the Mexican promotion to officially become part of the annual Forbidden Door event. All Elite Wrestling has allowed several talents to compete for CMLL, but it hasn't ventured to Mexico yet.

In a recent interview with Q101 Chicago, Tony Khan confirmed that he wants to hold a show in Mexico and that he'd love to do it in CMLL's legendary venue, Arena Mexico:

"I can't wait to eventually bring AEW for the first time ever to Mexico. Sooner or later, absolutely, it has to happen. If I can go anywhere in Mexico and work with anyone, I would love to go to Arena Mexico and work with CMLL. I think Salvador would be open to having us there." [H/T @DrainBamager on X/Twitter]

Tony Khan could book smaller venues for AEW shows in 2025

AEW has been successful beyond many expectations throughout its first five years, but the young promotion has been dealing with a downturn throughout 2024. With WWE enjoying its hottest period in decades, All Elite Wrestling is struggling to fill venues for its weekly shows.

Moving to smaller venues could temporarily fix this problem, and F4W's Bryan Alvarez has heard that the company might do just that in 2025. On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live, Alvarez claimed that there was "headway" being made for the promotion to run smaller buildings.

Tony Khan recently announced several events taking place over the next few months, including the Revolution pay-per-view in March. It seems that none of the announced arenas are any smaller than the ones Dynamite and Collision are normally hosted in, so it remains to be seen whether All Elite Wrestling will downgrade its venues in the future.
