Tony Khan urged to never put the AEW World Championship on 40-year-old star (Exclusive)

A WWE veteran recently explained why Tony Khan should not crown a popular star as the AEW World Champion. Vince Russo feels Orange Cassidy works perfectly like a "novelty act" but needs to stay away from the World Title picture.

Bryan Danielson's full-time retirement after WrestleDream 2024 created a massive void in the promotion, with many wondering who would be its next big babyface. Orange Cassidy is one of the performers positioned in the crucial spot and is now set to challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at Full Gear 2024.

Vince Russo believes the 40-year-old should not win the title. On a recent episode of Sportskeeda's Writing with Russo, the former WWE writer explained that though Orange Cassidy had an entertaining gimmick that fans loved, he shouldn't be close to the World Title picture in All Elite Wrestling.

"Definitely not. Orange Cassidy is a novelty act. He's a gimmick. Some people like his act, some don't. That is totally irrelevant. But when I look at that character, he's a novelty act. He should not be around the World Title nor does he need to have the World Title," said Vince Russo. (2:35 - 3:03)

Orange Cassidy doesn't want to be AEW's face

A few days ago, in an interview, Cassidy addressed the online chatter surrounding All Elite Wrestling seemingly picking him as the new face of the company. The AEW star mentioned that he had no interest in being the poster boy of the promotion and that he was more than happy simply performing the duties assigned to him.

“No, and I don’t think that I am, nor should I be. I don’t want that. I never wanted that. I wanted to do what I had to do and go home."

Considering Jon Moxley and his Death Riders stablemates have only begun their dominance in AEW, it's safe to assume the company could have Cassidy fall short of winning the gold come Full Gear on Saturday.
