Tony Khan has "yet to fill" Cody Rhodes' spot in AEW, according to former WWE figure
A former WWE name has claimed Tony Khan still hasn't found a replacement for Cody Rhodes' spot in AEW. The star being discussed is Kevin Kelly.
The 57-year-old has turned out to be a somewhat of a controversial figure due to multiple reasons. He was recently fired from AEW after he went on a rant about his fellow commentator, Ian Riccaboni. Kevin later also stated that he would be suing the Jacksonville-based promotion for being unjust. He recently called out AEW on social media.
Cody Rhodes, a former AEW star, left the promotion in 2022 and returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 to face Seth Rollins. He was one of the EVPs of AEW and made a huge contribution to establishing the company. He was one of the top babyfaces in the promotion and helped in promoting AEW in every aspect.
Recently, Kevin Kelly took to Twitter and said AEW is yet to find a replacement for The American Nightmare's spot as he had multiple duties in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"The one spot @AEW has yet to fill is the one @CodyRhodes held down. He wasn’t just the top guy but he was the face of the company. THE Goodwill Ambassador. Ticket issue? Special request? Cody took care of it. Talent comes and goes but replacing Cody means so much more," Kevin wrote.
Dustin Rhodes didn't know Cody Rhodes was leaving AEW
The Undisputed WWE Champion shocked the world when he announced his departure from Tony Khan-led promotion on February 2022.
While speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Dustin revealed that he didn't know his brother was leaving the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"I didn't actually, I didn't. But I know some stuff that went on. And you know, I think it was just his time. He made a smart decision. He made a very smart decision. Look at him now. You know, he is the man there. So it's incredible. Incredible ride, incredible journey from him leaving the first time in WWE," he said.
It will be interesting to see who becomes the top AEW star who could fill the shoes of Cody Rhodes.
