Tony Schiavone seemingly confirms AEW will never hold a show at legendary venue because of WWE
Tony Schiavone has watched AEW routinely do the impossible since its founding in 2019. The young company has filled up Wembley Stadium, brought legends out of retirement, and could be on the verge of becoming the most profitable non-WWE promotion of all time. However, a milestone that might forever be barred to All Elite Wrestling is an event in Madison Square Garden.
All Elite Wrestling tours internationally, but Tony Khan makes sure to take the company back "home" to Daily's Place in Jacksonville once or twice a year. While the promotion's fans have a soft spot for the venue, WWE's spiritual and historic home in Madison Square Garden has achieved legendary status.
WWE's MSG shows are almost always live events, but they're so special that fans can expect major title changes, storyline twists, and even debuts and returns at the venue. It would be a coup for All Elite Wrestling to run a show at the Garden, but Tony Schiavone doesn't think it will ever happen.
Speaking on the latest episode of his What Happened When podcast, the AEW announcer claimed that WWE's hold on Madison Square Garden will prevent the Jacksonville-based promotion from ever hosting an event there:
"I think it would be great, but I think it’s impossible to get it done because of the stranglehold WWE has had on MSG," Schiavone said. [H/T Ringside News]
Tony Schiavone shares his thoughts on WWE announcer Joe Tessitore
WWE recently shook up its commentary roster with the addition of Joe Tessitore. The company brought the famed sportscaster in as the new voice of Monday Night RAW ahead of its transition to Netflix.
Tony Schiavone is revered among wrestling commentators, and he recently gave his thoughts on Joe Tessitore's addition to RAW. Schiavone claimed that, while Tessitore will likely be great on Monday Nights, he won't be on the level of AEW's Excalibur:
"I'm sure he [Joe Tessitore] will do well. And I'm sure Nick Khan is paying him a big chunk of money. I'm sure he is gonna end up being one of the best, I would hope, play-by-play men in wrestling. I don't think he'll be in the class of Excalibur, but then again, right now, in this day and age, no one is. He's amazing."
Tony Schiavone has been with All Elite Wrestling since 2019 and remains a beloved fixture on Dynamite and Collision. Eric Bischoff believes the 66-year-old is due a WWE Hall of Fame induction, but whether that happens after Schiavone's retirement remains to be seen.
