Top AEW star confirms big split after shocking heel turn

A top AEW star confirmed the split from his now-former tag team partner after his recent heel turn. The star has been on the rise in his singles career lately.

The top AEW star would be none other than Kyle Fletcher. The 25-year-old star made his debut in the Tony Khan-led promotion in 2022 alongside his partner, Mark Davis, as a tag team. Nevertheless, Fletcher has been thriving as a singles competitor in the past few months and continues to improve in his new role.

At the WrestleDream 2024 Pay-Per-View, Fletcher shocked everyone by betraying his friend, Will Ospreay, and costing the latter the AEW International Championship, turning heel in the process. Kyle later partially shaved his head and called himself 'The Protostar.' Recently, Fletcher was confronted by his former tag team partner, Mark Davis.

However, Kyle gave no response to Davis as he has seemingly left the Aussie Open. During his recent appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Fletcher explained how he was enjoying being a singles competitor rather than being in a tag team:

"I am more than content being Kyle Fletcher. I have come onto my own, I feel like this new hairdo, this new era, I'm more than focused and content on that." [H/T WrestlingINC]

AEW star Kyle Fletcher wants to return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling

AEW star Kyle Fletcher also hinted at returning to New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) to settle things with his rivals. The 25-year-old star stated that he wants to have a feud with Shingo Takagi in NJPW:

"I wanna put Shingo Takagi in his place, Sabre — I'd love to step back in the ring with him — there's a bucket load of people." [H/T WrestlingINC]

Fletcher is set to team up with Konosuke Takeshita to take on Ricochet and his mystery partner this Wednesday on AEW Dynamite. It remains to be seen what transpires during the match.
