Top AEW star reveals Rey Mysterio caused a massive botch at All In 2018 - "He quickly threw on his mask"
Before AEW, there was All In. The 2018 pay-per-view was promoted by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, in conjunction with ROH. The card also featured stars from NJPW, TNA, NWA, MLW, and AAA. Rey Mysterio was one of the wrestlers featured in the main event, and now a top All Elite Wrestling star is speaking on the significant botch made by the WWE Hall of Famer.
All In 2018 at Now Arena near Chicago was the first non-WWE or WCW wrestling event since 1993 to sell 10,000 tickets in the United States. The success led to Tony Khan launching AEW in 2019. The card included matches for the ROH World Championship and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, while the main event featured Six-Man Tag Team action. The Golden Elite's Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson, and Kota Ibushi defeated Mysterio, Rey Fenix, and Bandido.
The All In main event went just under twelve minutes, ending with The Bucks hitting a Meltzer Driver on Bandido for the pin. The pay-per-view immediately ended. Matthew Jackson recently spoke with Undisputed's Justin Barrasso and revealed that the tag team match was time-crunched.
Originally booked for almost thirty minutes, the timing issues led to some in-ring chaos, which sometimes mirrored how hectic things were backstage. Matt revealed one instance of backstage madness came when Mysterio was nowhere to be found when his entrance began.
"The night had run a bit heavy and the production team was scrambling. We were told our 25-plus minute main event would have to be cut down by more than half. We immediately started trying to come up with things to cut. In the midst of the chaos, Rey Mysterio’s theme music was playing, but apparently there was no Rey Mysterio. We took it upon ourselves to race down the hallway to his locker room to investigate what was going on. Apparently nobody had smartened up Rey that his music was looping, so he quickly threw on his mask and sprinted to the entrance," Matt Jackson said.
The Now Arena installed a plaque to commemorate All In outside of the venue entrance in February 2019. AEW revived the All In name in 2023 for a big pay-per-view at Wembley Stadium in London to mark the company's UK debut.
All In was held in London again this past August but will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX on July 12, 2025.
The Young Bucks to defend on AEW Dynamite
All Elite Wrestling is just hours away from presenting its fourth annual Dynamite: Grand Slam special. The inaugural Collision: Grand Slam episode will also be taped tonight at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, to air on Saturday night.
The Young Bucks will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship against Kyle Fletcher and International Champion Will Ospreay on tonight's show. The challengers earned tonight's title shot by winning the first-ever Tag Team Casino Gauntlet on September 11.
The Bucks became the first three-time World Tag Team Champions by defeating FTR for the vacant titles at AEW Dynasty in April.
Since then, the EVPs have retained over The Acclaimed, FTR, and The Acclaimed in a Triple Threat, plus The Blackpool Combat Club's Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli.
