Top AEW stars featured in new promo with John Cena ahead of WWE retirement
AEW stars are featured in a new promo with John Cena. Just days after announcing his WWE retirement plans, Cena landed another new gig. Now several All Elite stars are helping to promote the project.
The Cenation Leader made a surprise appearance at WWE Money in the Bank this past weekend, where he announced that he will be retiring from in-ring competition in 2025. In recent years, Cena has focused on his Hollywood career and the hard work has brought success to the veteran.
All Elite Wrestling partner Warner Bros. Discovery is now presenting its annual Shark Week on Discovery. Cena was announced as the host of the annual lineup of programming and has been featured on WBD TV and social media all week. In a recent promo, the 16-time WWE World Champion was seen along with AEW's Adam Copeland, Billy Gunn and The Acclaimed, Willow Nightingale, RJ City, and Renee Paquette.
Cena can be seen on Discovery's Shark Week programming beginning every night at 8 pm ET, through Saturday, July 13. AEW is expected to have more tie-ins on Dynamite this week.
AEW star pays tribute to John Cena
The wrestling world paid tribute to John Cena this weekend after he announced that he will retire from WWE in 2025. One of those giving a public nod to The Cenation Leader was none other than current All Elite star Ric Flair.
Cena and Flair are very familiar with each other as both legends are currently tied for most world championship reigns record. The WWE Hall of Famer took to X/Twitter last weekend and shared a throwback moment with The Champ.
"What A Cool Moment! A True Friend Is Like A Four-Leaf Clover; Hard To Find & Lucky To Have! WOOOOO! @JohnCena," Ric Flair wrote with the clip below.
Flair and John Cena never compete in a one-on-one contest. However, The Nature Boy and his son David defeated Cena and Sean O'Haire in April 2002 at OVW. They then teamed on RAW to defeat Edge and Chris Masters in January 2006, and later defeated The Rated R Superstar and John Morrison that same year.
The legendary duo teamed with DX in 2006 to defeat Edge, Kenny Dykstra, Randy Orton, and Big Show, then again in 2008 for a win over Randy Orton, Big Show, JBL, and Umaga.
