Top alliance seemingly disbands in AEW; former champion hints at face turn - Reports

A top AEW alliance has seemingly disbanded, thereby meaning that a former champion could be turning face after being a heel for a long time. What effect could it have for the star going forward?

The star in question is Kris Statlander and the alliance that is being mentioned is her’s with Stokely Hathaway. The two of them came together after they turned on Willow Nightingale back in May. Since then, Statlander has been on the periphery and not had much to do.

However, things are seemingly about to change. Fightful Select has reported that the former AEW TBS Champion will now be a babyface. During the Collision tapings, the report stated that she appeared to be in line to face Mercedes Mone.

The report also stated that when inquired about the change, they were told that her alliance with Stokely is done and dusted on screen, or at least for this week apparently.

Sam Roberts says Kris Statlander turning heel in AEW was a shame

Kris Statlander is one of the most beloved stars in AEW and she is very popular among the fans. However, that was before she turned heel on Willow Nightingale.

So when Tony Khan decided to turn her into a heel, it came as a surprise to many. Wrestling analyst Sam Roberts has now echoed those thoughts. He was speaking on his Notsam Wrestling podcast when he said:

"I get it, Willow's beloved. I get not turning her heel, but it's almost a shame that Kris Statlander turned on her. Because I see a world where, like, Willow Nightingale can evolve into a female Vader. And I mean Vader in his prime, I mean Japan Vader, you know, I mean 'Vader vs. Sting' Vader, I mean that Vader. And we got time, that can still happen."

Given the latest reports, it will be interesting to see how Kris Statlander will be repackaged to appeal to the faithful fans once again.
