Top star reveals Mercedes Mone's major backstage contributions in AEW since joining the company
Wrestling fans were shocked when Mercedes Mone finally made her AEW debut at the Dynamite: Big Business special back in March. Since then, The CEO has been on the frontlines of a major push for the company's women's division. Former TBS Champion Willow Nightingale has now revealed how Mone is helping the women of All Elite Wrestling.
Mercedes Mone's first match in AEW was against Willow Nightingale. In a rematch from their May 2023 NJPW STRONG Women's Championship bout, Mercedes defeated her rival to capture the TBS title. She went on to win the STRONG Women's title from Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door, and she's now riding high ahead of All In 2024.
Mone and Willow Nightingale shared a heated rivalry, but the latter isn't bitter about losing the TBS Championship to the former WWE Superstar. In a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Nightingale praised Mercedes Mone, claiming that the 32-year-old is helping the women's division reach greater heights:
"[Mercedes] is very pro-AEW, women’s division, and helps push us forward. I’ve seen people write down the data, ‘Since Mercedes got here, you can see how much more time the women have on-screen.’ At the end of the day, she’s a cheerleader for us all. I appreciate that. We’re all pushing forward together. For her to take the helm and help us get that, I think it’s sick as hell." [H/T Ringside News]
Mercedes Mone will face Britt Baker for the TBS Championship at All In 2024
All In 2024 is just around the corner, and several major matches are already booked for the event. Mercedes Mone needed a strong opponent for Wembley, but few expected her to face one of AEW's top original talents.
Britt Baker returned from her long hiatus at Forbidden Door to crash Mone's victory celebration. The two came face-to-face the next week on Dynamite, and things have gotten ugly since then.
The CEO showed up unannounced during an AEW panel at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend and initiated a brawl with Dr. Baker on the stage. Tony Khan then announced that the two would square off for Mone's TBS Championship at All In 2024.
This will be the first time the two have ever stepped into the ring together. After almost a year on the shelf, it remains to be seen whether Baker can shake off the ring rust and win the TBS title for the first time.
