Triple H and Shawn Michaels did not like major AEW star's finisher in WWE
AEW star Swerve Strickland was signed to WWE before he turned All Elite in 2022. Meanwhile, he recently recalled Triple H and Shawn Michaels stopping him from using the House Call finishing move in NXT.
The King of Swerve was a part of NXT from 2019 to 2021 and is a former NXT North American Champion. The AEW star has had many finishers in his career, like the House Call, the JML Driver, the Swerve Stomp, and more. Swerve recently revealed an interesting story behind his House Call finishing move during his days in WWE's developmental brand.
In a recent chat on No Contest Wrestling with O'Shea Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson, the former AEW World Champion noted how wrestlers would duck when he used to charge at them with his House Call finishing move in NXT. The 34-year-old revealed that Triple H and Shawn Michaels later advised him to look for another finisher.
"When I first started doing [the House Call] in NXT, I would hit it, but some people would duck, and it would [skim top of head]. Triple H was like, 'Don't use it as a finish. I like it, but don't use it as a finish!' Shawn [Michaels] would agree with him, 'Yeah, it's not a finish. Sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't!' People are ducking from it. If you duck from it, of course, I'm going to miss. You of all people, Shawn, you do a Superkick. He's like, 'It's not a finish!'" [H/T: Fightful]
AEW star Swerve Strickland revealed Shawn Michaels wanted him to do the finishing move in his title match
Swerve Strickland defeated ''Big'' Bronson Reed to win the NXT North American Championship in 2021. The former AEW World Champion revealed an interesting story behind the finish of the match.
In the same interview, The New Flavor revealed that despite wanting him to change his finisher, Shawn Michaels told him to use the House Call finishing move to defeat Bronson Reed for the North American Championship.
"I struggled finding a new finish for a while in NXT. Finn came back, so I couldn't do the Swerve Stomp. It came time to win the North American Title; this is like a year apart; Bronson is the North American Champion, and Shawn is like, 'We were coming up with creative for the finish. Can you do that kick for the finish?' 'You gotta be kidding me!' I had to circle a whole year of Shawn being like, 'Now you can do what you want,'" he added. [H/T: Fightful]
