Unfortunate update on The Young Bucks; major plans canceled
AEW EVPs The Young Bucks' were set to compete against United Empire for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships next month at Wrestle Dynasty. However, the match is seemingly off after one-half of the tag team champions Great-O-Khan provided a serious update.
Nicholas and Matthew Jackson have been on a hiatus from AEW. But the duo recently announced that they want to win the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships again before their retirement. The match between The Young Bucks and United Empire (Great-O-Khan & Henare) was made official for the NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty PPV on January 5th.
During the NJPW World Tag League event on December 6th, Great-O-Khan announced that due to Henare's injury, the match against Nicholas and Matthew Jackson had been canceled. He also announced that the United Empire will be relinquishing the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships.
The replacement for United Empire will be announced before the Wrestle Dynasty PPV on January 5th.
Great-O-Khan claimed that The Young Bucks would have lost to United Empire at Wrestle Dynasty
Despite the match getting canceled due to Henare's injury, The United Empire's Great-O-Khan recently took some major jabs towards the AEW EVPs. The 33-year-old star claimed that The Young Bucks would have been defeated by them at Wrestle Dynasty and encouraged the duo to invite them to All Elite Wrestling after their defeat. He also called United Empire the best tag team in the world.
"It's obvious we're going to win anyway, and since we were in need of a challenger for the Dome, it's convenient for us to execute the vice president of AEW. If they come all the way to Japan and lose, I hope they invite us to join AEW. We will prove that we are the best tag team in the world right away. We can even consider a double affiliation with New Japan, since our contracts are up for renewal in January. However, unless it's at least three years and two billion [yen], that's a bit, you know, the world won't forgive us." [H/T: Fightful]
The fans will have to wait and see which tag team will be announced as The United Empire's replacement against The Young Bucks at Wrestle Dynasty.
