Update on MJF's AEW status after backstage confrontation with Britt Baker - Reports
MJF recently got into a backstage confrontation with Britt Baker. New details have come to light regarding the whole situation.
It looks like AEW has another backstage controversy to deal with at a time when they are getting ready for one of their biggest shows of the year - All In. Recently, Baker and Mercedes Mone got into a confrontation at San Diego Comic-Con. Following this incident, it was announced that Mone went and complained to the EVPs regarding Baker's behavior which resulted in her getting suspended. The timing of the suspension seemed odd since Baker is set to challenge Mone for the TBS Championship at All In.
Following the announcement, it was reported that Britt Baker was indeed legitimately suspended for a totally unrelated incident. On the Dynamite 250 episode, Baker was backstage mouthing off about MJF. His girlfriend Alicia Atout who was also part of the locker room told him what Baker said which resulted in the AEW American Champion confronting Baker. The incident didn't end there as Baker also confronted Atout. Moreover, the incident took place just minutes before MJF's hour-long banger with Will Ospreay.
Following the backstage confrontation, the human resources department got involved which led to an investigation and the eventual suspension of Baker. It is now being reported by Ibou of WrestlePurists that Tony Khan and the HR team were sympathetic towards the former AEW World Champion and he escaped without any punishment.
Alicia Atout explains the origin of her relationship with MJF
Alicia Atout made a name for herself as a backstage interviewer in many promotions before being signed by AEW. During this time, she would have multiple run-ins with Maxwell Jacob Friedman before the two of them would eventually start dating.
Speaking on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Alicia Atout explained how her relationship with Maxwell began.
"He is just so annoyingly persistent that he just bogged me down, and bogged me down. He always says in promos and when addressing the audience he gets everything that he wants and that just so happened to be the case over here, so now this where we're at." [From 27:07 to 27:56]
MJF is set to face Will Ospreay at AEW All In in London with the American Championship on the line.
