Veteran rips into AEW for controversial WrestleDream spot: "Treat the matches like a gymnastics competition"

The AEW roster has no shortage of talented wrestlers who put themselves through hell to entertain the fans. WrestleDream pay-per-view had many risky spots that left fans speechless and in awe. WCW veteran Disco Inferno recently commented on one such controversial spot.

Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Konosuke Takeshita battled in a Three-Way match for the AEW International Championship at WrestleDream 2024. After some back-and-forth, Takeshita hit Ospreay with a running knee to become the International Champion for the first time.

All three participants have high-flying styles and unique maneuvers in their arsenals. Therefore, the fans saw a display of brutal and awesome strikes and moves being exchanged inside the ring on Saturday.

Mid-way through the match, all three stars exchanged a bunch of suplexes back to back, which resulted in them landing on their heads multiple times. Commenting on the risky nature of those maneuvers, veteran Disco Inferno laid down harsh criticism on X/Twitter:

"AEW should just have judges with scorecards and treat the matches like a gymnastics competition. It would get over with their fans. Everyone would bring signs with the numbers on them. They should do this," Disco tweeted.

Will Ospreay gets betrayed at AEW WrestleDream 2024

The ending segment of the Three-Way match between Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Konosuke Takeshita saw a major betrayal. It looked like The Aerial Assassin would retain his title, but Don Callis, who was present ringside at the commentary section, interfered and pulled the referee out of the ring.

He then proceeded to attack Ospreay with a screwdriver, but the latter counteracted. Will was about to retaliate but was soon blindsided by a man in a black hoodie, who turned out to be none other than his buddy Kyle Fletcher.

Fletcher and Ospreay were members of the United Empire in NJPW. They later reunited in All Elite Wrestling as part of The Don Callis family.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the coming weeks and what Kyle has to say about the betrayal.
