Vince McMahon saw top AEW star as just a "good hand" and not a "money-maker," says Vince Russo (Exclusive)
WWE veteran Vince Russo believes the former President of the Stamford-based promotion Vince McMahon did not see AEW star Mercedes Mone as a major player in the company during her time there. The CEO is the current TBS Champion.
In 2022, Mercedes Mone walked out on WWE over frustrations with her creative direction and was later released from her contract. She went to Japan after her departure and competed there through 2023. After reported offers from both WWE and AEW, Mercedes Mone eventually signed with the Jacksonville-based promotion earlier this year.
In a recent exclusive chat on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws podcast, Vince Russo claimed that if Mr. McMahon thought Mercedes Mone could make him money, he wouldn't have treated the AEW star badly in WWE.
"If Vince McMahon thought she was a money maker, he wouldn't have treated her that way. He wouldn't have. So, he was literally looking at her as a good little hand and that was his opinion. She had a much higher opinion of herself, so she just went elsewhere." [5:12 - 5:36]
EC3 also spoke about the recent comments of AEW's Mercedes Mone about her WWE run
In the same video, EC3 also shared his thoughts on Mercedes Mone's comments about Vince McMahon and her treatment in WWE. The former NWA Worlds Champion explained how Vince McMahon often thought differently compared to other people and believed that Mone might be speaking the truth.
"She didn't really put herself over as this magnanimous, game-changing talent in that sort of statement. But, really what I found inspirational in it was first off, be a mother. It's the most important job you could have, so I really hope one day she finds that out, probably would be a great mother. Secondly, it was really about her and her gut feelings and her intuitions and the way she felt treated or disrespected or, we don't know the conversation that was had but we can also often see VKM [Vince McMahon] sort of be like indifferent to people's emotions and feelings." It will be interesting to see if Mercedes Mone heads back to WWE one day down the line.
