Wardlow's voice not matching his body seen as a big issue, reveals veteran, wants AEW star as his manager (Exclusive)
Wardlow has been missing from AEW TV since March 2024. Meanwhile, wrestling veteran Bill Apter recently commented on the star's underwhelming run in the Jacksonville-based company and stated that Tony Khan should have paired Mr. Mayhem with Jeff Jarrett.
Wardlow's last in-ring appearance came on the March 13 edition of AEW Dynamite: Big Business, which took place at TD Garden in Boston. He locked horns with Samoa Joe for the World Title in a losing cause.
In the recent edition of the Smack Talk podcast, Sportskeeda's senior editor Bill Apter expressed his displeasure with AEW's self-proclaimed Wardaddy's booking in the company. Notably, the three-time TNT Champion tried to earn a developmental contract with the Stamford-based promotion during the late 2010s but was not offered a position.
In the episode, Apter revealed that the possible reason behind the AEW star not getting a stint in WWE was that his voice didn't match his imposing personality. The 78-year-old further added that Jeff Jarrett should have been Wardaddy's manager in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"I've said this on so many shows and in our newsletter as well. What the hell did they do with Wardlow? This guy could've been Batista part two. You know what the WWE would've done with this guy? The main issue with Wardlow in WWE—I was talking with another wrestler about this the other night—is his voice didn't match his body. So what I would've done—the logical guy to be his manager would've been Jeff Jarrett. Can you imagine the heat of Jeff Jarrett being Wardlow's manager?" he said. [From 1:15:00 to 1:16:30]
When will Wardlow return to TV?
In April 2024, the former AEW TNT Champion suffered a horrific car accident. Later, he took to his X (Twitter) account to inform fans that he was ''banged up'' after the accident.
Meanwhile, a report from Fightful Select last month revealed there was no update regarding the exact reason behind Mr. Mayhem's absence.
It will be interesting to see if the talented wrestler returns to television in the coming weeks.
